The Provincial Prior’s Mad Hatter’s Tea Party
On Sunday the 29th July the Provincial Prior of Surrey, RE.Kt. Pat Crossan, once again kindly opened up his garden, this time for a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party for the Knights of the Province and their relatives and friends.
What a splendid afternoon we had down at East Horsley, thanks to the efforts of Gary Lewis in organising the event and manning the PA system.
and Jim Smith who had the job of making sure we were all suitably refreshed.
Thanks also to members of the Provincial Prior’s Bodyguard for car park duties. They did a great job of ensuring everone had somewhere to park – thanks to Pat’s kind neighbours.
It was a very informal gathering for Knights and their families and friends to socialise in a relaxed atmosphere. Here you have the Provincial Executive, Present and Past all trying to outdo the Provincial Prior’s outfits.
Fortunately PC Pat was there to keep them all in order.
Graham McGlashen brought along his Bearskin and invited everyone to have a photo taken wearing it for a donation to charity. This raised a considerable sum as you can see from the slide show of photos at the bottom of this article.
Garry organised a game of croquet on the lawn between the Present and Past Executive. This proved quite a competitive game – and I have no idea who won.
Next was the raffle – thanks to everyone who brought along so many prizes, which filled the table.
The last thing left to do was to judge the hats. This was a difficult task as so many had entered into the spirit of the day. Our Provincial Prior was rather upset that he did not win – despite wearing at least five different hats over the course of the afternoon. Here we have Ian Smith and Peter Brown in their outfits.
To round off a very successful afternoon, which raised over £400 towards the Pancreatic Cancer charity, our Provincial Prior thanked all those who had helped to make it a success. Garry Lewis, Jim Smith, the members of the Bodyguard, and especially the girls who worked so hard in the background preparing and serving us with delicious sandwiches, scones and cake.
